A pretty uneventful day overall. I ran 7.2 miles and watched the first half of the Spartans vs Badgers game, which was for the Big Ten Championship held in Indianapolis this year. It was 29-22 at half time and had some really amazing plays.
I weighed in at work at 201.4 on Tuesday and this morning was back down to my Monday weight of 201. I have to not get discouraged because I have been eating really well, not drinking any alcohol, and doing lots of exercise but it isn't showing up on the scale. I'm sure one of these days I'll have a big breakthrough. For now I'm just going to assume that I am building muscle since all the fat on my belly and chest is definitely melting away.
Maria was really depressed during the evening because her back and stitches are preventing her from holding Gabriel and Emily. She broke down crying once, but seemed to do better afterwards.
After Gabriel went to bed and my parents left, I spent an hour and a half playing Rocksmith and practicing Icky Thump by the White Stripes. Maria and her mom sat in the living room and talked about Maria's dad and all of the not so good things came up.
Maria really doesn't want to be around him or have to talk to him or hug him again and she definitely doesn't want Emily being held by him. I'm completely on her side and when we do stop avoiding him I will have to pull him aside and let him know that he isn't allowed to hold Emily until he learns to treat his own wife as an equal and with respect.
It's just such an ugly relationship that it makes us sick. We don't want Gabriel or Emily around him because there is nothing about my in laws marriage that is healthy and we don't want them to be exposed to that on a regular basis.
We let Gabriel be around him a bit, but Gabriel never really liked him. That's my boy! There is definitely something different about having a daughter though. I feel much more responsible to protect her even though I know I am also responsible for protecting Gabriel. Maria and I have both gone from reluctantly letting Gabriel be around her dad to being completely opposed to Emily (and now Gabriel as well) being around him.
Good times!

Another Birthday Goes By
It was a good birthday.
Maria isn't supposed to drive, so her mom took her out to buy another baby changing pad because Emily has a habit of peeing or projectile pooping whenever we take her diaper off to change her. While they were out, she picked up sushi from Sushi Moto and earlier in the day she had picked up a custard long john and jelly bismark from QD. Not bad for just giving birth 6 days ago. I wasn't expecting anything at all from her so both of those were nice surprises.
When I first got home I hopped on the treadmill and did a 0.45 mile run at a 10 degree incline and 7mph followed by a 5k run. I finished off my workout with the 7th workout in the NFL Training Camp 60 day challenge.
Gabriel and I hung out at home while Maria and her mom were out. I installed Skype on her laptop and on my computer so that we could video conference with David, Karly, and Rosemarie later in the evening. They ended up calling around 8:30 right after we sat down for dinner, so we took the call at the kitchen table.
Speaking of dinner, I had mentioned to my parents that I wanted to celebrate my birthday on the following weekend rather than last night so that I could get my exercise in. Well I wasn't planning on them dropping off dinner, but my mom ended up bringing a fancy dinner over. If I had known what they were doing earlier in the day I would have invited them to stay and eat with us, but instead they just dropped it off and left . I felt bad about it later when Maria brought it up so I'll have to call or email them after I finish this post.
The rest of the night was just standard fare. Almost an hour of Rocksmith, my first visit to the new Darkmoon Fair in WoW, a game of NHL 12 that I won 3-2 against the Maple Leafs, and two levels of Orcs Must Die. I also added all of the October / November movies that I want to see to our Netflix queue. It's not over 560 movies long. I don't think I'll ever get it down to a reasonable number. That may be as many movies as I've watched during my entire life!

Life After Thirty
I turned thirty today and I thought it would be a good time to start blogging for my own records. I don't really care if anyone else reads this, but hopefully someday I'll be able to share it with my kids.
Some important things about me today:
I've been married for just over two years, since October 3, 2009, to my wife Maria.
Our first son was born on July 24, 2010 and we named him Gabriel Isaac.
Our first daughter was born just a few days ago on November 29, 2011 and we named her Emily Joy.
I am 6 foot 1 inch tall and weigh 201 lbs as of this morning, but I used to weigh 170 lbs back in High school and reached 199 lbs during the middle of my senior year in college. During high school, I promised myself that I wouldn't let myself cross 200 lbs ever because I never wanted to be a fatty.
Well, I am a fatty.
I hit a high of 213 lbs in January of 2011 and have made it down 10 lbs this year so far. Exercise and healthy eating is an important part of my life, but I consume too many calories from alcohol and then pigging out on food before bed so weight loss had been hard.
I've made it a goal to cut way back on drinking now that my daughter is born and I've already lost 2.5 lbs in 6 days.
I love video games. I own a Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, DS Lite, and PSP. I am trying to buy less games and do more renting from Gamefly and Redbox. I'm only partly succeeding in that and am still buying more games than I should.
I play World of Warcraft and have a 85 Undead Rogue and 84 Human Warlock (female that I named after my wife). I play casually these days and just do daily quests, battlegrounds, and use the Dungeon Finder now and then to run dungeons. I'm looking forward to the Raid Finder that was just released with the 4.3 patch that came out last Tuesday.
I work at a large Variable Annuity / Life Insurance company as a 'Software Developer I'. I like the company I work for and the people I work with. Sometimes it's pretty stressful, but the days go by really quickly. I have to be on call once every 5 weeks and I don't really enjoy that.
I wish I knew Spanish but I haven't made it past the basics that I learned in a semester of Spanish that I took in college.
I wish I could play the guitar, and am trying to learn by playing Rocksmith and using Justinguitar.com. I don't have a schedule that would allow me to take real lessons or the time to really focus on it.
My cholesterol is above the healthy level and is at 217 last time I got it checked (200 and below is good, 240 and above is high risk). I went out and bought NFL Training Camp for the Wii in hopes that it would motivate me to do some weight lifting since most of my exercise involves running on the treadmill.
My blood pressure is usually around 132/90 which is well into prehypertension and almsot into hypertension. I need to focus on lowering that and I am hoping that cutting back on alcohol and salt, and then weight lifting and losing weight will lower that back into a healthy range. I want to be able to grow old to see my kids have kids.
I'm Catholic, but not a very good one. I got to Mass and regularly go to confession but I don't spend much time praying outside of that. I don't feel very close to God and haven't for a few years.
Overall I am happy with my life, but I am hoping to improve it even more. I want to treat 30 as a time to focus on getting what I want out of life instead of a time to be depressed about getting older. I'm not sure how often I'll be writing here or even what I'm going to do with this blog.
The only thing I know for sure is that it will be about my life after thirty.
